The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in partnership with Newmont has commissioned and handed over an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Youth Centre to the chief and people of Wioso in the Ahafo-Ano South West in the Ashanti Region.
At a short ceremony, the Board Chairman of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie Adjei Woahene II called the students to make good use of the facility and thrive to be at par with their colleagues in the cities and elsewhere through the use of this opportunity offered to them.
Speaking at the event, the Director in charge of Communications and External Relations of Newmont, David Johnson said the establishment of the Smart Lab will be the incubator of ideas, the workshops of tomorrow’s inventors, and the classroom of future leaders.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, Newmont’s partnership with Otumfuo Foundation continues to bear fruit following years of collaboration in delivering social interventions and offering hope to many. At Newmont, the construction and commissioning of Wioso’s Smart Laboratory is more than just the construction and installation of equipment; it symbolizes a promise of empowerment, inclusion and value creation that directly improves the lives of less endowed communities”, he said.
The AI Youth Centre will expose the children to be part of new technology and scientific advancements that could activate the interest of the students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
It is also evidence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s commitment to ensuring that students in rural communities are provided and get access to various opportunities that are easily accessible to students in urban centres.
The program was attended by Nana Asaw Ababio, Wiosohene, Mr David Johnson, Director of Communications, Newmont, Hon. Frimpong Bonsu, DCE of Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano South West District Director of Education, Teachers and Students from Wioso.
