Dr. Thomas Agyarko-Poku is a Venereologist, Public Health Physician and Research Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Public Health System Strengthen.
Dr. Poku holds Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Master of Philosophy in Clinical Microbiology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. In addition he has a Postgraduate Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine and Venereology from University of Liverpool, UK, Master of Science Public Health from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London UK and Doctor of Philosophy Public Health from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana
BRIEF PROFILE ON DR. THOMAS AGYARKO-POKU
He is fellow of a number of local and International organizations including Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH), International Union Against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI), International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and Ghana Medical Associate.
Dr Agyarko-Poku is currently the Medical Superintendent of Suntreso Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Regional Programme Manager of STI/HIV/AIDS Control Programme, Ghana Health Services.
He is an Adjunct Lecturer in Clinical Medicine, Medical Communication, Infectious Diseases, Public Health and Sexual and Reproductive at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi Ghana and Christian Service University College.
In addition Dr Agyarko-Poku works and service on the board of a number of governmental and non-governmental charity organizations including PPAG, Otumfuo Charity Foundation, Serwaa Ampem Foundation for Children and Board member of a number of second cycle institutions.
Dr Agyarko-Poku has conducted a number of research and published many scholarly articles and presented papers on Sexual Reproductive Health, HIV and AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections and other infectious diseases as well as health policy and planning. He has been a very vocal advocate on Sexual and Reproductive Health has actively contributed to the development of curricula and documents on sexual health care policy and guidelines at governmental and non-governmental levels at the national and international level.
