As part of the celebrations marking the Silver Jubilee of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation has held a special event dubbed the “Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Day of Education” to honour the King’s longstanding commitment to education and social development in Asanteman.

The event, held in Kumasi, saw a total of GH₵260,000 presented to individuals and institutions to support quality education, entrepreneurship, and vocational training.

Speaking at the event, the Board Chairman of the Foundation and Otumfuo’s Hiahene, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, praised the Asantehene for championing initiatives that seek to reduce poverty and improve the well-being of his people. He emphasized that Otumfuo’s Silver Jubilee would be incomplete without highlighting his far-reaching social impact in the areas of education, healthcare, water and sanitation, entrepreneurship, and cultural preservation.

One of the standout beneficiaries was 13-year-old Abena Kessewa Kwaffo, a student of KNUST Junior High School, who received GH₵135,000 (approximately $10,000). The Foundation had supported and mentored Abena to participate in The Spelling Bee 2024, where she placed third nationally and earned a spot to represent Ghana at the international level in the United States this May.

The Prempeh College Robotics Team, who previously won an international robotics competition in Michigan with sponsorship from the Foundation, were also presented with a GH₵25,000 cheque to cover their living expenses as they prepare to compete again in the U.S.Additionally, GH₵100,000 in scholarships was awarded to tertiary students under the Otumfuo Education Fund, while former beneficiaries joined the event to share their success stories.

The event also recognized women trained under the “Invest in Her” Project, a collaboration between the Foundation and the World University Service of Canada. The initiative focuses on empowering women in male-dominated fields such as electrical work, heavy machinery operation, auto electrics, and computer hardware and networking. These women received GH₵54,000 in stipends to support them during their training.

All the beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his unwavering dedication to transforming lives through education and empowerment.

The Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Day of Education stands as a testament to His Majesty’s impactful leadership and the legacy of social transformation he continues to build for Asanteman and beyond.
