Every year, on May 15, International Day of Families is celebrated globally.  The Day is commemorated to provide an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families.

This year’s theme for the International Day of Celebration is ‘Families and Urbanization’. Urbanization has been associated with human development and progress, however in recent times it has also served as a breeding ground for poverty in societies. When large number of people congregate in urban areas, many problems result, predominantly for the poor. It is very evident that the impact of urbanization in recent times has made it difficult for some patients at KATH to settle bills after receiving medical health care.

It is with this reason that on Wednesday, 18th May, 2022 the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation visited KATH in honor of the International Day of Families.  As part of marking the event, the Foundation’s Patroness, Her Royal Highness Lady Julia Osei Tutu, settled bills of mothers at the health facility who had given birth with some undergone surgical treatment but unable to settle their bill. These patients who had been at the hospital unit for a long period due to financial constraints were released off a total dept of 30,000 Ghana cedis, and were also given some hampers and tokens by the Foundation.

The hospital expressed gratitude to Her Royal Highness, Lady Julia and the entire management of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation for their laudable initiative and continuous support to Asanteman and Ghana.
