Lady Julia Commissions A Maternity Block For Manhyia Government Hospital

Her Royal Highness, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the wife of Asantehene, on Saturday, 27th April, 2024, commissioned an ultra-modern maternity block for Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation in partnership with the Joberg Foundation constructed the edifice in commemoration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Silver Jubilee Celebration.

The maternity ward named after the 14th Asante Queen, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who was present at the commissioning with a number of Amanhemaa.

The new block has 16 beds to augment the current beds in the maternity ward to a total of 40 beds. The new block offers a supplementary operating theatre for surgical procedures and also has a private delivery suite as well as VIP ward for occupancy by mothers who will come there to deliver.

The Mamponghemaa, Nana Agyakomaa Difie II who spoke on behalf of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, urged the hospital administration to make the most of the space and made a plea for assistance to the hospital.

In his opening remarks, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boakye Adjei Woahene, the Foundation’s Board Chairman, recounted how Lady Julia changed the narrative by constructing a brand-new maternity block to assist labouring mothers in giving birth in a safe and secure environment after seeing the horrible conditions of the Manhyia Government Hospital maternity block on social media. To ensure that the building fulfils its purpose for a very long period, he advocated for a maintenance culture.

The Medical Superintendent at the Manhyia Hospital, Dr Kamarudeen Korku Hussein expressed his appreciation to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation and Joberg Foundation on behalf of the hospital management.
