Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation Commemorates International Day of Education 2026 in Obuasi
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, in partnership with AngloGold Ashanti and Adwinsa Publications, commemorated the International Day of Education 2026 under the global theme, “The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education.”
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, in partnership with AngloGold Ashanti and Adwinsa Publications, commemorated the International Day of Education 2026 under the global theme, âThe Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education.â The celebration reaffirmed the Foundationâs commitment to empowering young people and promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education across Asanteman and Ghana.
The event was held on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Obuasi Campus, and brought together schools from the Obuasi and Obuasi East Municipalities. Students, teachers, education stakeholders, and members of the public participated actively in the celebration, creating an engaging and inspiring atmosphere focused on youth empowerment and educational development.
This yearâs celebration highlighted the critical role of young people in shaping the future of education through creativity, collaboration, and innovation. The program featured a variety of activities, including impressive poetry recitations and cultural dance performances by pupils from the Obuasi Methodist Basic School, which showcased the talents, creativity, and confidence of the students.
The event also featured insightful speeches and addresses delivered by invited dignitaries, who emphasized the importance of education as a catalyst for national development and encouraged stakeholders to continue investing in the growth and empowerment of the younger generation.
As part of the commemoration, educational materials were presented to support teaching and learning within the municipality. AngloGold Ashanti, which partnered with the Foundation and Adwinsa Publications to co-sponsor the event, donated 12,500 textbooks to pupils in Obuasi, while Adwinsa Publications donated 2,500 storybooks to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation to promote literacy and cultivate a reading culture among young learners.
The celebration was graced by several distinguished personalities, including Nananom, political representatives, religious leaders, education directors, and security personnel, whose presence added prestige and significance to the occasion. Their participation underscored the collective responsibility shared by all stakeholders in nurturing education and investing in the future of the youth.
Through strategic partnerships and impactful educational initiatives, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation continues to champion opportunities that enhance access to quality education, empower young people, and improve the lives of communities across Asanteman and beyond.
